About the role
This bank in Accra lends to people across the formal and informal sectors based on data and discipline, not collateral. As Chief Risk Officer, you will own the credit policy, the decision engine and the quality of the loan book. You will write the rules, protect the portfolio and be the independent voice when growth and quality pull in different directions. You will report to the Managing Director and have a direct line to the Chair of the Risk and Compliance Committee, so your word carries real weight. If you like building a risk function from the ground up and are comfortable saying no when it matters, this role is for you.
What you will do
- Write the credit policy and run data-driven credit decisions, including scorecards, affordability rules and early-warning triggers
- Keep portfolio quality within the Board’s targets for non-performing loans, portfolio at risk and first-payment default
- Own the collections and recovery policy, and set the standard for how customers are treated in every collection contact
- Set up the risk appetite, risk register and fraud framework, and run the second line of defence
- Build risk analytics, own provisioning with the CFO, and handle credit and risk matters with the regulator
What we are looking for
- 12+ years in credit and risk, including 5+ as CRO, Head of Credit, Head of Risk or a COO with credit accountability in a Ghanaian financial institution
- Experience running a retail or micro-credit portfolio at scale, with tens of thousands of borrowers, through a full credit cycle, and results you can verify
- Hands-on experience with scorecards, credit-bureau data, decision rules and model governance
- Experience designing or running collections, and a clear understanding of conduct risk
- The independence to stop a channel and defend the decision
- Regulatory fit-and-proper status for key management
