About the role

This is an institution in Accra at the start of an ambitious new phase. As Managing Director, you will take the lead on launching that phase on schedule, building the team and delivering the Board-approved plan, while earning the trust of the regulator, shareholders, partners and the public. You will be the bank’s main relationship with the regulator and its face in the market. The CFO, CRO and the heads of collections, technology, compliance, operations, marketing and HR will all report to you, and you will report to the Board. We want a proven leader who grows the business without letting quality slip.

What you will do

  • Own the business plan and budget, and deliver the targets for customers, deposits, loan book, profitability, capital and liquidity
  • Lead the launch programme: regulatory approvals, technology readiness, recruitment and partner contracts
  • Hold the primary relationship with the regulator, and report to the Board and its committees
  • Keep portfolio quality within the Board’s targets, and build a culture where growth never comes at the expense of quality
  • Recruit and lead the executive team, and negotiate key partnerships with banks, payment providers, credit bureaux and insurers
  • Drive adoption of digital channels and expansion into new regions

What we are looking for

  • A leader who has run a Ghanaian financial institution as MD, CEO, CFO or COO through growth, transformation or turnaround, with results you can verify
  • A record that passes a fit-and-proper assessment without reservation
  • Direct retail or micro-credit experience: you have owned a loan book, lived with portfolio-at-risk numbers and run collections
  • Experience launching or scaling digital channels in a regulated institution
  • Good commercial judgement, discipline with capital and the ability to say no
  • Strong leadership, and clear communication in English and at least one Ghanaian language
